President Cyril Ramaphosa has used his national address on gender-based violence to highlight the positive influence of South African sporting icons, specifically praising Springbok captain Siya Kolisi and Proteas cricket captain Temba Bavuma.

Men and boys must step forward and say, ‘Not in my name’. More and more men must stand forward and say, ‘I shall not lift a hand against any woman’.

The President noted that figures like Kolisi and Bavuma serve as vital role models for the youth, demonstrating that true strength lies in respect and protection rather than violence. He urged the nation to follow their example in fostering a culture of accountability.

Ramaphosa emphasized that the fight against gender-based violence requires a collective effort from all sectors of society, with men playing a central role in changing the narrative and behavior that leads to the ongoing crisis in the country.
