The African National Congress (ANC) has expressed deep concern over the conduct of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema, citing a significant threat to parliamentary decorum. The ruling party’s criticism follows a series of incidents in the National Assembly that have sparked intense debate regarding the standards of behaviour expected from elected representatives.

ANC officials have accused Malema of consistently undermining the dignity of the house through inflammatory rhetoric and disruptive actions. They argue that such behaviour not only hinders the legislative process but also sets a dangerous precedent for political discourse in South Africa.

The conduct displayed by the EFF leader is a direct affront to the democratic institutions we are sworn to protect and uphold.

In response, the EFF has defended its leader, maintaining that their approach is a necessary form of protest against what they describe as a failing political system. They argue that the ANC’s focus on decorum is a distraction from the substantive issues facing the country, such as economic inequality and service delivery failures.

Political analysts suggest that this ongoing friction highlights the deepening polarisation within the South African parliament, as parties struggle to balance robust political opposition with the requirements of parliamentary procedure.
