Taxi Driver & Passengers Injured After Shooting: Amawoti – KZN
A taxi driver sustained serious injuries and more than eight (8) passengers were reportedly injured when the taxi they were travelling in was involved in a collision while fleeing gunfire in Amawoti – KZN yesterday afternoon (Monday, 28/09/2026).
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a report of the shooting at approximately 16:30. Upon arrival, Reaction Officers discovered that the minibus taxi had crashed into a concrete wall. It was established that the driver was travelling on a local road when he was targeted by gunmen. He attempted to evade the shots fired at his vehicle, resulting in the taxi losing control and colliding with the wall.
The driver sustained serious injuries and was treated on the scene by paramedics before being transported to a medical facility. Several passengers also sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate and were attended to by emergency services.
The motive for the shooting is currently unknown and is being investigated by the South African Police Service (SAPS).
