The African National Congress (ANC) Parliamentary Caucus has expressed strong condemnation regarding the conduct of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema during recent virtual proceedings of the Section 89 Impeachment Committee.

According to the caucus, Mr. Malema engaged in an unwarranted verbal attack against ANC Member of Parliament, Cde Cameron Dugmore. The incident occurred after Cde Dugmore requested that Mr. Malema adhere to parliamentary rules and maintain decorum by addressing fellow members in an appropriate manner.

Such inflammatory and personal insults were entirely unwarranted and fell far short of the standards of conduct and parliamentary decorum expected of Members of Parliament.

The ANC caucus highlighted that the tension arose when Cde Dugmore noted his participation in the anti-apartheid struggle during a time when Mr. Malema was still a child, a statement that preceded the EFF leader’s aggressive response.
