President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared that the abuse, rape and killing of women in South Africa is not part of the country’s heritage. Speaking at a national event, the President emphasized that such acts of violence are a stain on the nation’s conscience and do not reflect the values of a democratic society.

The abuse, rape and killing of women is not our heritage. It is a scourge that we must confront and defeat together.

Ramaphosa called for a collective effort from all sectors of society to address the root causes of gender-based violence. He urged men to take responsibility and play an active role in ending the cycle of violence against women and children.

We must ensure that our homes, our streets and our workplaces are safe for all women. We cannot allow this to continue.

The President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening law enforcement and providing support for survivors of gender-based violence, noting that the fight against this crisis remains a top national priority.
