ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa has made a renewed commitment to job creation, promising employment opportunities for South Africans across all age groups. The pledge comes as the country continues to grapple with high unemployment rates and economic uncertainty.

The priority set out in the SONA is to grow the economy of our country and create jobs. The micro-economic environment has improved. Our tax collection revenue remains strong. Public finances are in better shape, and the national debt has stabilised.

Despite the President’s optimistic outlook, many citizens remain skeptical of the promise. Critics point to the persistent gap between government rhetoric and the reality of the labor market, where youth unemployment remains a critical concern.

South Africa’s investment case is not in doubt, and the reform agenda has proven to be consistent and measurable. But there is a gap between improved sentiment on one hand, and greater capital deployment that translates to strong growth and jobs on the other.

The government maintains that its focus on economic growth and structural reforms will eventually yield the necessary jobs, but for many South Africans, the wait for tangible results continues to be a source of frustration.
