A recent Ipsos poll ahead of the 4 November 2026 local government elections has revealed a significant surge for the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality.

According to the data, the EFF has reached 27% support in the region, positioning the party as a major contender in the upcoming municipal polls.

The survey results indicate a tight race in Buffalo City, with the Democratic Alliance (DA) polling at 33% and the African National Congress (ANC) at 29%.

Buffalo City: DA 33%, ANC 29%, EFF 27%. Here the ANC plus EFF could surpass 50%, while DA could also form coalitions depending on negotiations.

The EFF has already confirmed its mayoral candidate for the municipality, nominating Mkhululi Dlevu, who currently serves as a Member of Parliament, to lead their campaign in the area.
