The Democratic Alliance (DA) has announced that it will vote against the Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF) motion of no confidence in National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza, arguing that her removal would be premature.

The motion, tabled by EFF leader Julius Malema in June, centers on Didiza’s decision not to oppose President Cyril Ramaphosa’s urgent high court application to interdict the parliamentary impeachment process.

The DA will vote against the EFF’s motion of no confidence in National Assembly speaker Thoko Didiza, despite having previously criticised her handling of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s impeachment proceedings.

With both the African National Congress (ANC) and the DA set to vote against the motion, the EFF’s bid to remove Didiza is unlikely to succeed, as the two largest parties in the government of national unity hold a significant majority in Parliament.
