A recent Ipsos poll has revealed a significant surge in support for the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality, with the party now polling at 27% ahead of the upcoming local government elections on 4 November 2026.

The findings, which highlight the metro as a key battleground, suggest that the EFF has established a strong competitive position in the region, with support levels that are substantially higher than in other metropolitan areas.

According to the Ipsos data, while the ANC and DA remain the leading parties in most metros, the race in Buffalo City is becoming increasingly competitive. The poll results indicate that the EFF’s concentrated support could play a decisive role in the outcome of the municipal elections.

The sample size in the Northern Cape is low. Note: Results for Nelson Mandela Bay, Buffalo City and Mangaung should be interpreted with caution because the sample sizes for these metros are relatively small.

The study, which interviewed 3,600 South Africans nationally between June and July 2026, underscores the shifting political landscape as parties intensify their campaigns for the November polls.
