Media personality Ngizwe Mchunu has confirmed the cancellation of his highly anticipated Bhinca Heritage and Maskandi Festival, which was scheduled to take place in Inanda, north of Durban. The decision follows a series of violent confrontations between his supporters and members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the area.

Mchunu alleged that the presence of armed individuals within the EFF group necessitated a defensive response from his security detail to ensure the safety of those present.

The clash occurred just ahead of the EFF’s provincial manifesto launch, which was also slated to take place in Inanda. While Mchunu had previously insisted that his event was not intended to disrupt the political gathering, the proximity of the two events and the subsequent violence led to a heavy police deployment to manage the volatile situation.

Following the altercation and the reported discharge of a firearm, Mchunu opted to call off the festival to prevent further escalation and ensure public safety. Authorities continue to monitor the situation in Inanda as both political and cultural groups navigate the aftermath of the weekend’s events.
