Ngizwe Mchunu confirms Bhinca festival cancellation amid EFF clash

Media personality Ngizwe Mchunu has officially confirmed the cancellation of his highly anticipated Bhinca festival following a violent confrontation with Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) supporters in Inanda, KwaZulu-Natal.

The incident, which occurred on Friday, saw Mchunu and his security team clash with EFF members who were preparing for their own provincial manifesto launch in the same area. The situation escalated rapidly, resulting in physical altercations and the discharge of firearms.

Mchunu stated that his security personnel were forced to fire warning shots, including the use of an AK-47, after they allegedly identified armed individuals within the EFF group. The EFF has since opened a criminal case against Mchunu regarding the shooting incident.

Police were forced to intervene to restore order in the township, and both parties have traded accusations regarding who instigated the violence. The cancellation marks a significant setback for the event, which had been heavily promoted by Mchunu as a celebration of Bhinca culture.
