Mashego after PSL club exit: ‘I’ll go and coach anywhere’

Former Gomora United assistant coach Tshegofatso Mashego says he is determined to reach greater heights in his career, having already shown his ability at previous clubs.
Mashego had been with Gomora in different roles in recent times, having played a part in their promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship two seasons ago.
But after things did not work out there as the two parties parted ways just before the beginning of the current campaign, he is now ready for the next chapter.
The former Free State Stars defender’s most recent role at the Alexandra-based club was as assistant to Patrick Phungwayo.
“These things happen in football. It does not help to dwell on the past; in football, you take the good with the bad,” assured Mashego, speaking to KickOff.
“I have no doubt I will be back in the coaching space soon because I’m not someone who’s picky and will coach in the ABC Motsepe League or the Motsepe Foundation Championship… or even the topflight if the opportunity presents itself.”
He has earned his coaching credentials in the lower divisions and is considered one of the brightest young tacticians in South Africa.
Those close to him describe Mashego as a coach with ‘an analytical eye’ who prefers possession-based football.
The highlight of his career was guiding Super Eagles to National First Division promotion after reaching the final of the ABC Motsepe League National Play-Offs in June 2017.

He has also coached clubs such as Bakone FC (in Witbank), Njampela FC (KwaZulu-Natal) and Black Eagles (North West) in the ABC Motsepe League and is most notably credited for laying the foundation for Kruger United’s promotion to the Betway Premiership after becoming their first-ever coach in the second tier.
“I was actually with the club’s director Basil [Khoza] after they recently got their first win, and we were reminiscing about those days. Even as a man of very few words, he still appreciates what I did for the club,” reveals the name popularly known as ‘Thabo’.
He possesses a CAF C license, with plans in motion to upgrade to a CAF B licence in the near future, and reiterates that, “Whichever club puts in a good offer, I will go and coach anywhere.”
