Julius Malema’s EFF surges to 27% in unexpected municipality, claims latest poll

A recent Ipsos poll has revealed a significant shift in the political landscape of Buffalo City, with the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) surging to 27% support ahead of the upcoming local government elections.

The data indicates that the political battleground in the metro remains highly competitive, with the Democratic Alliance (DA) polling at 33% and the African National Congress (ANC) at 29%.

The EFF’s rise to 27% in Buffalo City suggests a potential realignment of power, where coalition negotiations between the ANC and EFF could surpass the 50% threshold, or the DA could seek alternative partnerships to secure governance.

The EFF has already signaled its intent to contest the metro aggressively, having recently announced Mkhululi Dlevu, a current Member of Parliament, as its mayoral candidate for the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality.
