Second Kempton Park victim identified as DNA proves vital

The Gauteng department of health is calling on the families of women who are missing to contact police as its experts work to identify the Kempton Park victims.

Five female bodies have been discovered in the Ekurhuleni area between July and September. The bodies were received at the Germiston forensic pathology service (FPS) facility, which is providing forensic pathology services to support the investigation.

“Of the five bodies, two have been identified by their families,” health department spokesperson Steve Mabona disclosed.

The department “appeals to families who have reported loved ones missing and who may have reason to believe their relative could be among the three unidentified deceased women to approach the Germiston forensic pathology service for assistance with the identification process,” it said.

Mabona explained that the Gauteng FPS is assisting SAPS with the forensic investigation, including the retrieval of samples for DNA analysis to support the identification process.

The health department’s role is to provide forensic pathology services, including:

“SAPS remains responsible for the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths, and the health department will continue providing the necessary support to the investigation.

“Members of the public with information relating to the investigation are urged to report such information directly to SAPS.”
