Ramaphosa vows to build on $10bn South Africa-India economic ties

President Cyril Ramaphosa says South Africa wants to deepen trade and investment ties with India, with opportunities in critical minerals, green industrialisation, infrastructure, agriculture and the digital economy.

Ramaphosa made the remarks after attending the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, where he said South Africa’s membership of the grouping provided an important platform to build political and economic ties that benefit the country.

South Africa and India had complementary resources and capabilities that could create value for both countries.

India currently stands as South Africa’s fourth-largest trading partner. The economic footprint between the two nations is already substantial, with more than 150 Indian companies investing over $10-billion in South Africa, a move that has generated more than 18,000 local jobs.
